It Was Cold and it Was Hot

The first half of summer was cold and rainy.   The second half of summer was hotter than hot!  We enjoyed the library.  They had a *world tour* going on.  We carried our passports back and forth in our orange backpack and collected a sticker for each Summer Craft and each Canopy Caper we attended.  The little boys loved it.  I enjoyed it too, but if I have to hear *John Foster's Underwear* one more time, I might hurt somebody.  Luckily, the song is no longer being chanted around here, due to the new ABC song that Karson is learning being the favorite chant (more on that later).

Little Buddy is learning to use scissors.  It's a pretty difficult task for someone who is really good with his big muscles, not so good with his small muscles.  He is determined to get it right.  The OCD in me had a real hard time not helping him to stay on the lines ;)  Let's hope these scissors just stick with paper.  Scrap paper.
Of course Big Boy can do it all.  He is a little disturbed I let his little brother do the craft for kids 5 - 10 years old.  *See, it says right here on the sign mom, for kids 5 - 10.  Yeah, I know buddy, but he is tired of crayons and stickers (which is what they had EVERY stinkin' week for the under 5 group).  That's just a guideline, right?  He felt like it was a hard and fast rule, and his MOM WAS BREAKING THE RULE!
This is it, right here, where I heard pretty much every week, *John Foster's Underwear*.  It's a song about a kid whose grandma buys him a pair of underwear at a garage sale.  The previous owners name is written on the waistband.  The kid goes to gym class..... OK, you get the picture.  I hate Junior High.  And I don't care if they change the name to Middle School.  It's still the same and I hate what our country does to our kids at this most crucial age.  Did I digress?  Sorry.  Ahem.
Luckily, this week, this mama was able to keep the rules and keep her 4.5 year old at the under 5 table.
I knew you'd be proud.
While big brother went solo at the 5-10 yo table.
So proud!
At the end - although I don't know why they call it the end, cause it was only July 28th, and in my mind that isn't anywhere near the END of SUMMER! Anyway, at the END of Summer Book Club the kids got prizes.  Tickets to a free magic show.  Which I declined.  I can't imagine how many kids would be there and how I would not enjoy sitting in that room watching magic.  Although, I would have probably enjoyed it more than The Underwear song. We also could have gotten free tickets to the local community pool.  Which I also declined.  Have I ever told you about my phobia of public pools?  I grew up being dropped off pretty much every summer day at the Public Pool.  Man, my mom had it soooo good.  The thoughts of all those bandaids and hairballs floating around at the bottom of the Public Pool.  I'm dry heaving now just thinking about it.  Shhhh... don't tell my kids these were options.  We just accepted the free book.  I shoved my *I want my kids to read quality literature* intuition way down and let them choose their own book.  They chose Home and Game Day.  Two books that are no where near the top of my list.  They did enjoy reading them a few times.  You bet these books will go bye bye on my next book purge.  I like to share ;)

Denice, this post was freaking hilarious!! and I share your enthusiasm for public pools. When I was a nanny my kids would go to the Riverside pool (still public but probably with a little bit of crowd control) and I'll tell ya, I hated that place! Hair balls, bandaids, and lets be honest, there are a TON of kids peeing in there (I'm a huge germ-a-phob) I got sick SO many times that summer from all the germs I was exposed to there. Nay for public pools!

So funny that Karter had to inform you of the rules. You rebel!! I can't believe Karson is almost 5. That means I had my best night sleep EVER 4.5 years ago...thank you Ambien. Ha ha.
