The end of the most wonderful time of the year....

After dragging half of our house with us we were finally able to settle into enjoying Christmas vacation at our cabin.  My first year homeschooling we took the whole month of December off.  The second year we took half the month off.  Since school boy started school, I decided the others might as well continue school until public school is out too.  That, along with the addition of our tutors this year :)  Keeping the kids learning with the math and writing tutor gave me more time to do my merriment preparations.  They excelled in their studies and I excelled with more mental stability! We still continued with Monday Funday (which used to be called Friday Funday - or was it Fun Friday? lol) and I continued until the bitter end!  Actually it was super fun.  We did some fun Christmas crafts I maybe wouldn't have made time for before.  And read a fun Christmas story - The Best Christmas Pageant Ever

These are my siblings.  I only have brothers - 3 of them.  One brother died 20 years ago, but here I am with my siblings and their wives.  They came to our cabin on Christmas Eve.  I intended to serve Honeybaked ham and cheesy potatoes, but Brooke became chef for a day and made Chili Verde with my dad's recipe.  Who could resist?!!  We exchanged gifts and then they all went home :)  My parents decided to spend Christmas at their Condo in Arizona this year.

We acted out the Nativity, which is our tradition every year.  I've considered buying the costumes I see at the bookstore, but that would take away from the fun the kids have in inventing their own costumes.  Karter spent half a day on his own costume, proclaiming himself a *wiseman*.  Usually Karissa doles out the parts and helps with costumes, but she didn't have the chance with school boy this year!  We also watched a few videos on dad's ipad.  Some really good Christmas messages on lds.org.
Every year the matching Pajamas.  The tradition started when I thought it would be so cute having my 3 little kids in traditional matching p.j.'s in front of the tree for an adorable Currier & Ives sort of photo shoot.  Little did I know what this would evolve into!
Cookies for Santa - Oh yes, we do believe!!!!!

Christmas day was spent with just our family.  It was so awesome.  Relaxing,  quiet, peaceful..... The highlight for me was talking to my two missionaries!  I MISS THEM SO MUCH!!!  We tried to conference call, but that didn't happen.  Neither of our missionaries were able to skype, so we ended out talking to them separately.  They were both a little homesick, Kenzie more so because this is her first Christmas away.   I think Kyler already knew what to expect.  Talking with them is great.  Saying goodbye, knowing we won't talk for another 6 months is hard.  No matter how long I talk I always feel a little unsettled afterward.  Oh well, they will both be home for next years Christmas.  Yeah!!!

Saying Goodbye to History

I have lots of fond memories of this building
as the water hit the trees they split and burned
but firetrucks are always fun for kids to see
we always parked in the NuSkin parking garage and walked in this back door
so much water was pouring out of this boiler room,
it was flooding the parking garage
My children always wanted to sit in the balcony.  You know how kids are - get to the highest point.  I learned to not sit in the front row of the balcony, because when I went out with the baby my neighbors had to save the toddlers from going over the edge!  Goodbye Provo Tabernacle.

Missionary Mail from Kyler

Hola
What's goin on? Today is not really pday, but on New Years all the cybers are going to be closed, so they told us to do it today and next monday when we got a chance. So I don't have much to say, but we will see what I can come up with hehe. It was good to talk to you all on Saturday. Next time you hear my sweet voice I will be 3 weeks away from coming home. The phone call is always good, but leaves me with an unsatisfied feeling. One elder told me that he talked for 4 hours once and he still felt the same way, so I guess that's just how it is.

This week was interesting for missionary work. Monday was pday last week, then when it was time to work, our electricuted elder called us and asked us to take him to the hospital, so that ate up the few hours we had at night to work. Then Tuesday we had a really solid day of work and found some good investigators. Wednesday we had president interviews and that ate up our entire day. Once again Thursday we had a good solid full day of work and got out there and had really good lessons and found a good guy to teach. Friday was Christmas Eve, it poored rain half the day and everyone gave us the *it's chrismas eve, come back next year* excuse haha. So that day went down the drain then they changed todays pday to Saturday, so no work there and Sunday we did what we could to try to save the week, but it was too little too late.

Unfortunately our entire zone had the same results and we had a big fall in baptisms and lessons taught. It's looking like were going to fall a bit short of our goal, but we are close. Although missionary baptism goals are rarely met haha. Our zone is doing really well missionary wise, with not too many problems, so this week is looking promising.

So I'm not sure if I told you, but the house I live in is a 4 elder house. That's the first time I've lived in one my whole mission and lets just say that it's hilarious, but a trial all at once haha. We live with Elder Novoa and Elder Rios. Both really good kids but one of them is the biggest mooch in the world. What's ours is his haha. So basically I've gotten used to buying a liter of milk, eating one bowl of cereal then coming back and it's all gone. I guess sharing is caring right.

So here's an interesting investigator situation that we have. It's an 18 year old girl who is pregnant and lives with her 28 year old boyfriend, who works all day. Her boyfriend has a 3 year old kid from his old girlfriend, who she babysits all day. Imagine that Kortni. I feel pretty bad for her, but here it's normal, so whatever.

The weather here has been wicked. 40 degrees celcius with 200% humitity. Not joking, we have been wet for like a week now. It rains and it stays super hot, so we are just wet sticky balls all day. Our house has a big metal roof, so it acts like an oven, so our house is always about 10 degrees hotter than outside and it doesn't cool down at night. It's so humid that my bed, my sheets and everything else in the house feels damp. I love the mission!

Let's see what else. President Heaton is driving up to Salto tomorrow for our district meeting. That could either be good or bad, we're not sure haha.

Oh yeah, so we had our president interviews. Those went well. President Heaton is cool. He's just really relaxed and says what he feels and thinks. Interviews are more like just chillin'. He told me that Elder Brough is leaving at the end of the change, to end his mission, as a normal missionary, so looks like I'll be getting a new comp in a few weeks.

That's all for now. Hope all is well! Love you guys

Missionary Mail from Kenzie

Hello family. I just talked to you like two days ago, so I don't really have much to say since you already know everything. But everyone else who reads this doesn't know, so I will update them. Wednesday we had more transfers and Hna Stevens (my companion from the ccm) is my companion again. In the words of her mother that is probably the best Christmas present we could have gotten. Since Hna Villavicencio only showed me two houses in the whole area, we have spent the week trying to figure out the area and getting to know the members, etc. The members in our area are awesome. They are always giving us references (which never happens) and leaving to appointments with us (which also never happens). The only thing is no one likes the bishop so there is problems with that. Apparently he took peoples callings and temple recommends away because they were drinking coca cola. The first couple of days we were here, everyone said they were busy and to stop by after Christmas, so we found this little nine year old member Kathy in the street and she just started showing us all around the area and introducing us to all the members. It was hilarious. She talks like she is like 17 years old and she just knows everyone and she actually helped us a lot.

Christmas was good. It was awesome to get to talk to the fam. After that we had a gift exchange as a zone. I got a smelly tie dye tshirt and hna Stevens got a bag of dead flies. after that I went home and barfed and then I felt fine, so we went to eat at a members house. she gave us meat. It was awesome. And we had a pinata. Then after that we went to another members house that had invited us to dinner, but I think she forgot and it was really awkward and she gave us some chuchitos that I think she already had.

Our area is pretty sweet. I live on a farm with corn and there are lots of cows. I think this week the work should start to pick up, but I'm not sure cause apparently New Years is a bigger deal here than Christmas. We will see.

Tell Nico congrats. I'm not even lying I was going to guess Italy, but I didn't cause that's where his brother went so I thought it wouldn't be possible.

Kelsey Lund write me right now.

Love you and miss you all!
Have a Happy New Year!!

Love,
Hermana Roney

disclaimer: This is the diary of a misionera. Yes sometimes crazy stuff happens on the mish but thats what makes it fun and interesting. There is also a lot of good stuff that happens too. I wouldnt change these experiences for anything and I have grown and learned a lot here. I wouldnt change a thing. So I better not be hearing any negative remarks from you crazy people.

The Most Wonderful Time of Year...........

At the Happiest Place On Earth...........

I CANNOT ride the teacups!  And from the look of Taylor, neither can he.

But most people LOVE them!

Eeyore is the ONLY character Karson would even get close to.  He was so proud of himself, *did you see me dad?  I saw Eeyore!!*

ICK!!!  Can you believe he didn't even get sick?
*Look mama, I'm a doggy*

Gotta love the happiness this boy carries in his heart.

Never too old for the Chew Chew Train
*R* for *Roney*

This Mickey loved our daddy!  He came to us and made sure Brooke got his pic taken.

I think it had something to do with the size of our Mega Family!
Mickey was very impressed.

We are not really a parade kind of family.  Well, I love a good parade, but the kids would rather be in shorter lines for the rides.  But who could resist SANTA!

We had an amazing spot for the parade with It's a Small World as a backdrop.
The lights & decor at Disneyland made our trip extra-magical
We caught the bug of collecting & trading Vinylmations.  This collection looks impressive, but with 13 people and each needing 2 - one to keep and one to trade - it adds up quickly!

practicing his counting, colors, sorting.........
